Charge shielding allows one to inflict high-damage close-range combos without receiving harm. It is done by firing the bomb at an opponent right beside you, and immediately performing the charge attack to both flatten the enemy and attain invulnerability while in the midst of the bomb blast. This proves to be successful because 1) most bombs don't down the opponent, and 2) since you know exactly when you are deploying the bomb, there is a timing advantage against the opponent. Success is also determined by exactly what charge and what bomb are used; a poor combination of parts could result in a low damage combo, or worse, paying the price by taking a hit from one's own bomb.
