Daniel Clive Wheldon (born 22 June 1978 in Emberton, Buckinghamshire, England, United Kingdom – 16 October 2011 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, near North Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, United States) was a British racing driver who won the Indianapolis 500 in 2005 and 2011, along with the IndyCar title in 2005. Wheldon was killed in a 15-car pile up at the final race of the 2011 IndyCar season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. The race was subsequently cancelled, without any final results. This meant that British driver Dario Franchitti retained the title.
