The original jeweler, Immeral Silverleaf, fashioned the large orange jewel (a blazing sapphire) cut in the shape of a flower and mounted in a brooch of gold. The Jacinth was then augmented with high elven magic to enhance the beauty and durability of the gem. This artifact is present in earlier editions of D&D, originating in the original D&D rules in the Eldritch Wizardry supplement.
