6 Tile Street was the home of the Preston family. It was known as the "house without any love in it" due to the strictness of Harold Preston towards his two children and the detachedness of his wife Margaret. It was also the birthplace of Betty Preston and her younger sister Maggie Preston, with both of them living there from their births until after the Second World War.
