The Dark Jedi slew several of his own troopers, just because "they got in the way", and threw several others at the attacking Jedi, who slew them. In a duel, Valin was defeated, but managed to set off an explosive which detonated the Imperial camp, killing all of the Rebels and Imperials in the area. Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader later recalled that he was a "failed experiment", and covered up the information on his massacre, stating that the Jedi committed the act.
