The Carrilya System Defense Fighter forms the core of all planet based Kartanin fighter squadrons. Planetary interception duties prompted the need for high supersonic atmospheric speed, which put some limitation to other aspects of the fighter. However, high speed coupled with a significant warhead payload gives it an edge in atmospheric combat, and the low price (due to missing hyperspace capability among other things) means it will often outnumber potential enemies significantly. During the Leeran Campaign, the Kartanin Warfleet has tested the Carrilyas performance for planetary assaults, and has opted to equip such assault forces with a force of system defense fighters as well.
