Limits to Growth (1972) by Donnella Meadows, Jørgen Randers, and Dennis Meadows is an important book in the history of the environmental movement. The main idea of the book is that an economic system based on growth will always end in an ecological desaster sooner or later. This very obivous fact (every unlimited exponential growth in reality always ends in some kind of desaster) has never been answered properly by the economic sciences and still economic growth is a base idea of politics today.
