Prior to its release, the movie was going to be shown at the Batty Awards hosted by Brandon Davies, but Davies couldn't allow it to be seen since it contained footage of Davies stealing stamps. In order to prevent anyone from seeing evidence of his theft on the big screen, he disguised himself as the eponymous Shadow Creature, making it look like the movie monster had come to life, destroyed the film, and scared everyone away from the ceremony. However, his crime was exposed when Mystery Inc. got involved.
