The Imperial Watch was originally known as the Republic Watch, which in turn was comprised of members of the former Dragonguard. After the fall of the Republic, the guard renewed their allegiance to the new King, Ausra Capewell I, and continued to serve the people of Hearth. The Imperial Watch served the people of the Kingdom of Novania under King Ausra Capewell, becoming fully established in 3E 1165. The Imperial Watch would be replaced by the Imperium of Novania in 3E 1168.
