The most effective way is to use Magic while protecting from ranged and avoiding his special attack of explosive books. An alternative method is to use Melee with high Ranged Defence armour, such as Torag's armour while using a weapon with good accuracy such as an Abyssal whip or a Zamorakian hasta. Using Protect from Melee is required with this method.
