The film secured an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and three Oscar Nominations: 1. For Best Actor: Seann William Scott, 2. Best Supporting Actress: Naomi Watts and 3. For Best Cinematography. The film was released theatrically on December 4th, 1995. The idea was thought up by W. Peter Iliff all the way back in 1992.
