The Kingdom of Belgium, which still consists of the capital Brussels, and the southern region of Wallonia, maintains de facto control over Flanders, despite the proclamation of the Flemish People's Republic it is recognised only by Westland, with the European Union and the United States remain resolute in its support for the Kingdom of Belgium, and has denounced Westland's acts in backing the uprising. Westland has stated that is is backing the 'will of the Flemish people.'
