The unnamed Lorry Driver unwittingly came to the aid of Deirdre Langton as she stood on a bridge over the bypass in November 1977, contemplating suicide after her rape ordeal several weeks before. Deirdre at first seemed insensible to his shouts as he requested to know the whereabouts of Dingley Road which he had been unable to find, despite several attempts. She came out of her reverie enough to give him directions and then to make her way back home to husband Ray.
