Despite being a comedy sketch show, Mary Walsh stated that This Hour Has America's 22 Minutes is not a direct competitor to Saturday Night Live and to Mad TV, due to the fact of airing in different days and having different running times, despite being influenced by both shows and ironically having former cast members from both. Unlike the Canadian version, THHA22M never used false names to its anchors/correspondents. The show is also slighty influenced by Comedy Central's The Daily Show.
