On October 30, 1964, Simon Birch was playing baseball with his best friend Joe Wenteworth and their baseball team. Simon was on the plate. The coach told him to swing the ball at the pitch. When Simon did, he hit a foul ball that hit Rebecca Wenteworth, Joe's mother, on the side of the head and Rebecca died! Simon, Joe, and everyone was very sad.
