Most of the compositions were classical-style pieces. Though the entrants had the support of the RTSG Concert Orchestra, no entry made use of the entire orchestra. Six of the entries were performed solo by the individual composers. The remaining four entries were performed primarily by the composers with minor orchestral accompaniment. 18-year-old Aaron Sowder, who composed "Meet Me Tomorrow," performed the first portion of his piece with a fiddle before finishing with a mandolin. His composing talent and musical versatility made "Meet Me Tomorrow" a fan favorite during the competition's early years.
