The APEC Knowledge Based Economies Project conducted research in 2004 on innovation in service industries with special reference to electronic commerce, its driving forces, and major impediments to its future uptake. Case studies and analysis were presented with a focus on areas such as the impact of innovation, the changing nature of services, internationalization, competitiveness, and the effects of the Internet, structural change, foreign investment and intellectual property.
