Barriga was on his way to Heeth Tower, a guard tower in Northern Kandor, to resupply the soldiers who were guarding it, when his caravan was attacked by the swarm of Shadowspawn attacking the Borderlands. After the attack he was found by three men with red veils. The men who found him killed the unarmed and wounded Barriga on sight. Barriga first believed they looked like Fades, then upon a closer look decided that they resembled Aiel, leaving the idea that there may be Aiel who have thrown away all ideas of ji'e'toh and have sworn to the Dark One. In the last book of the WOT series it is revealed that these Aiel are Samma N'Sei.
