A protected page is a page that has been locked by an administrator, so that only registered users - or, in some cases, only administrators - are able to edit it. Important pages, such as the main page, may be protected to deal with vandalism. Other pages may be protected for the same reason, or they may be protected in order to cool down edit wars. Pages added to Project:Title Blacklist prevent (re-)creations of deleted/forbidden titles. Certain templates may also protected, depending on the nature of their use. Other pages may be protected to preserve official texts.
