The Encari were an isolationist people whose homeworld of Encaria was located just two light years from Romulan space. In 2159, during the Earth-Romulan War an alien vessel of Encari design was observed surveying the planets in the Epsilon Theta system as the region was infected by a mutagenic virus created by the Romulans. The Enterprise (NX-01) was sent to Encaria to investigate. Upon scanning the planet, it was discovered that the planet had been poisoned with the same disease that infected Epsilon Theta, but it was much further along in the ecosystem.
