Until April 8, 2004, the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE) was Australian’s lead Commonwealth agency for information economy issues, helping Australians create a world-class online economy and society through its work developing, overseeing, and coordinating Commonwealth Government policy on electronic commerce, online services and the Internet. Functions of the former NOIE relating to the promotion and coordination of the use of new information and communications technology to deliver Government policies, information, programs and services were placed with AGIMO.
