Young Maelstrom Creationism (also known as Intelligently Conjured Maelstrom) is an alternate theory as to how the Maelstrom was formed and what it represents. This theory seeks to challenge the mainstream historical account of the Maelstrom being formed ten thousand years prior to World of Warcraft's timeline as a result of the Well of Eternity collapsing into itself during the Great Sundering. Proponents of it (often describing themselves as Young Maelstrom Creationism Advocates) argue that the Maelstrom is too complex to have been formed by a blind chance due to an explosion and that it was created by Deathwing as a gateway between Deepholm and the surface of Azeroth. They claim that the Maelstrom is no more than 6 months old in the timeline of the events of patch 4.3.
