The 1986 Talladega 500 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event held at Talladega Superspeedway on July 27, 1986. The 17th race of the 1986 season, it became the most competitive of the season and set a new record for leaders in a 500-mile race. Bill Elliott won the pole with Dale Earnhardt second and Tim Richmond third. Starting in 13th was Bobby Hillin, Jr, driving a Stavola Brothers Racing Buick as teammate to Bobby Allison.
