Coma gas was a colorless, odorless gas used to incapacitate most species of humanoids. Its use varied from riot control to full combat operations and saw widespread use throughout the galaxy. Various forms of coma gas were used in boarding harpoons by many pirates and privateer organizations, including the Rebel Alliance, who were intent on capturing vessels quickly and with a minimum of bloodshed. All it took was a few breaths of coma gas for a person to be out for hours.
