Emma's parents are Watchers who are stationed in Connecticut. She was born and raised there, and trained by her parents as a Watcher. As she got older, she elected to become a nurse as well. Once at Yale for nursing school, she met Phil Anderson, whom she eventually married. After the wedding, Emma decided to focus solely on nursing and give up Watching, and she and Phil moved to Sunnydale.
