The Hegh’bat is a form of Klingon ritual suicide. Tradition dictates that a close friend or the eldest son must assist. The assistants job is to hand the dying or grievously injured Klingon a knife, so that he may plunge it into his heart. The assistant then removes the blade from the now dead Klingon’s heart and wipes the blood off onto his sleeve.
