Swarthy Swamp is a wetland located near the Horseradish Factory along Lousy Lane and is connected to Lake Lachrymose. It is where Count Olaf drowned Dr. Montgomery's Assistant, Gustav, in order to disguise himself as the new assistant, Stephano. Lemony Snicket had an appointment to meet Dr. Sebald in the swamp, where he waited more than nineteen hours. The purpose of the meeting was for Lemony to return the script of the movie Zombies in the Snow to its director, Dr. Sebald. While waiting on a rowboat, Lemony wrote down several possible titles for a book about his life.
