Pope Matthai Reese (マタイ＝リース Matai Rīsu?) is a character introduced in Toaru Majutsu no Index. A stern-looking old man, he was the Bishop of Rome and the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, and for much of the God's Right Seat Arc was in an antagonistic position until Fiamma of the Right's introduction into the story. After the events of World War III, the Roman Catholic Church was reorganized and Pietro Yogdis became the new Pope.
