William G. Larson was a United Earth admiral who was regarded as a hero following his actions at the Battle of Gamma Hydra during the Romulan War. In honor of Larson, the Federation Starfleet named the Larson-class destroyers after him as well as naming the prototype USS Larson in his honor.
