Marks was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft from the University of North Dakota. He would go on to play 657 NHL games, all of them with the Hawks, where he left his mark as a very consistant and reliable player. On two distinct occasions, he reached a career-high of 21 goals.
