Becky Wells is a tour guide for the Miccosukee Reservation, doing tours, explaining about the Miccosukee way of life, and how it contrasts with the rest of society. Becky gave Ricardo Cooper, a visiting author/doctoral student, a guided tour of the reservation, about its' people, watching alligator wrestling, etc. Becky has no idea about the tribe politics, but is aware the Chief's son, Joe Dan Jumper, is doing something, and when Martin "Marty" Castillo attempts to contact Cooper, Becky lets the Lieutenant know he went with Joe Dan to the dealer Levec's place, where they later find everyone except Cooper dead.
