Gokpah Island lies at the edge of the Bay of Raktari, as it meets the sea, just south of its smaller neighbour, Akpar Island. All the land is low-lying, and this and its greater distance from the mainland has meant that the island has never been inhabited by humans. A few rare species of birds do live on the island, however, though birdwatchers wishing to see them must find their own transport there, as demand is not enough for a regular service.
