The great deserts on Earth have nothing on Eridani Prime. An unusual anomaly in planetary physics allowed Eridani Prime to stray too close to the sun to be habitable, but its orbit allowed oxygen to form in its atmosphere. Despite the harsh conditions, it is one of the only planets in the known galaxy with native oxygen. Local residents describe it as smelling like sulfur, though, suggesting that perhaps terraformed atmospheres are best. The large amounts of hydrogen in the atmosphere, usually in upper atmosphere pockets, make for strange spontaneously combusting flares that appear regularly in the sky as the local star detonates them. Eridani Prime is hence famous for its nightly light shows, though they are hazardous to landing craft. The allure of little pre-colonization preparation att
