In 1998, Danny was lost during a rescue attempt to retrieve a missing boy, named Stevie, from a cave. Initially, Fire Captain Miles Cooles sent Danny and an officer that Cooles referred to as T.C. into the cave. When Cooles realized that T.C. was not responding to radio communication, he ordered Danny to check T.C.'s radio. However, Danny also did not answer when Cooles attempted to contact him.
