The original Steele was mentioned in the Breaking News! post by Choy (in Issue 251), who revealed that everyone in G.U.N. had codenames named after metals. Around 85 years later, a dog was given the title of Commander Steele. The new leader watched over missions such as sending Silver the Hedgehog to retrieve scattered members of the Emerald Hill folk and return them to the Emerald Hill Zone. One day, Steele outright rejected Dr. Gerald's plan to send Silver into the past, but reversed his decision after asking Silver for his opinion. Later, when the Iblis arrived to steal the Chaos Emeralds, Steele ordered Silver to enter the time machine. He then readied his men to attack Iblis, but may have perished in a sudden explosion.
