The Starfleet 44th Attack Squadron was a Federation Starfleet fighter squadron extant at least in the 2230s. In January of 2233, the 44th, embarked on USS Tiamat, was the first Penguin fighter unit to see action when it destroyed a Kzinti staging area at Monaba.
