He attempts to kill Marten in his raven form but fails, Marten grabbing him in his claws. Cuthbert Allgood and Alain Johns are still stranded with a lifeless Roland. Alain decides that if he is to save him he has to go todash, entering the Pink Sphere. Cuthbert now alone hears the mutie wolves for the first time and kills the first of them. Alain enters the sphere and latches onto Roland's legs. The raven turns back into Marten, who causes Alain to loosen his grip on Roland and forcing him to leave the sphere. As soon as he returns to the normal world he jumps straight back into the sphere.
