Elizabeth May, OC (b. June 9 1954, Hartford, Connecticut) is the current leader of the Green Party of Canada. In the 2008 Federal Election, she was defeated by Conservative Defense Minister Peter MacKay (46.6%) achieving 32.2% of the vote finishing second of the five candidate in the riding of Central Nova. She is also an environmentalist, writer, activist and lawyer. She was the executive director of the Sierra Club of Canada from 1989 to 2006.
