The unnamed Girl Shopper was in Sylvia's Separates with two of her friends as the shop held its closing down sale. She asked Gail Potter if they had a pair of knickers in a different colour and without frills, only to be told that the only ones in stock were those in the sale box. Trying it on, she then asked if they had any novelty knickers which came in a tin and had to be opened with a can-opener. Gail referred her to Elsie Howard who, her patience already tried, suggested she try the local grocers!
