Kal-taar are small, extremely swift organisms indigenous to Aiur. Not being predatory in nature, they rely on their speed to escape any species which may choose to pursue them as a meal, which may indicate that they fill a niche similar to that filled by the mice on the planet Earth. During the Aeon of Strife, the Shelak Tribe of Protoss bestowed spiritual importance on the kal-taar, and would call upon the "spirit of kal-taar" when hunting. Because of the planet Aiur's fall to the Zerg and no references being made to their being brought off-world, they are currently considered extinct until proof of their further existence has revealed itself.
