The Kingdom of Tonga (Tongan: Puleʻanga Fakatuʻi ʻo Tonga), commonly known as Tonga, is a constitutional monarchy composed of over a hundred islands in the Southern Pacific. Once claimed as part of the Territory of Fiji, Tonga became a protectorate of the Union of New Netherland in 1900. Along with Hawaii, Tonga is the only other monarchy to have survived in Polynesia.
