The Cliffs of Dawn are an extensive range of cliffs marking the northeastern edge of the Aiel Waste. They extend for 250 leagues (1,000 miles) southwest from the Mountains of Dhoom into the Aiel Waste and range in height from 100 to 500 feet. Large mountains are located beyond the cliffs. There are only six spots along the cliff where it is possible to scale the heights. At each one of these spots is a trade town built by the secretive nation of Shara that lies to the east. At their southern end, the Cliffs suddenly drop into the massive canyon known as the Great Rift.
