Prolegomena zur Geschichte Israels (Prolegomena to the History of Israel) is a book by German biblical scholar Julius Wellhausen (1844-1918) which formulated the documentary hypothesis (a theory regarding the origins of the Torah or Pentateuch, the first five books of the bible). The book was extremely influential and is often compared for its impact in its field with Charles Darwin's On the Origin of Species.
