They were generally short and broad with dark olive skin. Men grew mustaches and small tufts of beard. Some dressed in treated hides and wore headscarves while others covered their mostly naked bodies with ochre mud and white face paint. Warriors carried spears and stone knives. They identified the Salt Mountains to the north as Joggenhome, the land of their ancestors. Warriors fought for the right to stand before their ancestors as champions of their people.
