Savitri is an epic poem written by Sri Aurobindo in 1950. It is based on a tale from the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata, about a princess, Savitri, who married a prince living in exile, Satyavan. One year after their marriage, Satyavan dies. Savitri confronts the Lord of Death and by the power of chastity and will wins back the life of her husband.
