Sing to rest our yesterday, Our passions past, in due array. Bereft of sustenance and sway, Their green in time recedes. Recall the thirsts we often knew; They acted thus, in plain review: Impellent to unearth, pursue A Thirst to them exceed. Respectfully we cast them free, In fond remembrance, now untied, A parting of belov'd debris, The dusts on which we once relied-- Now pruned of pride and lesser loves, We lay them by the wayside. Sing, then, children of light, in word and deed: Let my bones' striving sound this hymn of renewal, My heart's yearning, an elegy for standard ardor.
