On a mission to the planet S-R III in 2361, the Ulysses discovered an object which was later determined to be one of the three orbs of the Pah-wraiths. The Ulysses was attacked by a Cardassian Galor-class warship, however, and crashed on the planet's surface. The surviving crew, including Executive Officer William Ross, left the planet, but were captured by the Cardassians and held prisoner for eight months. Some of the escape pods crashed on the planet.
