However, he was an opponent of this development, and of the Federation's interference in Mariposan affairs. In 2376, in the wake of an apparent biological weapon attack, he resisted the assistance of Starfleet Doctor Elizabeth Lense, and used his authority to undermine efforts by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers to collect medical research equipment from the Life Science Center.
