At birth it is common for an elephant calf to weigh 120 kilograms (260 lb). The largest elephant ever recorded was shot in Angola in 1956. This male weiweighed about 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb). The Savanna Elephant is the largest land animal, with males standing 3.2 metres (10 ft) to 4 metres (13 ft) at the shoulder and weighing 3,500 kilograms (7,700 lb) up to a reported 12,000 kilograms (26,000 lb). The Forest Elephant can weigh up to 4,500 kilograms (9,900 lb) and stand about 3 metres (10 ft) tall.
