The FIA medical car, a Mercedes-Benz estate car, arrives at the scenes of accidents during Formula One races. It is driven by a professional medical car driver, which is currently Alan van der Merwe. The passenger of the car is usually a certified FIA doctor (Prof. Sid Watkins in recent years), usually to check to see if the driver is in good health.
